Kamala Harris

 Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20th 1964) was an American lawyer, politician, and the current vice president of United States. She is the first female vice president and the highest-ranking female official in U.S. history, as also the first African American and first Asian American vice president. A member of Democratic Party, she has been attorney general for California between 2011 and 2017 and was a United States senator representing California from 2011 to 2021. Harris was born in Oakland, California. She graduated from Howard University as well as the University of California Hastings College of the Law. Harris started her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. After that, she was enlisted to San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was the San Francisco district attorney. She was appointed Attorney General of California in 2010, and was re-elected in 2014. Harris served as the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 to 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election to become the 2nd African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As senator, Harris fought for healthcare, federal de-scheduling and legalization of cannabis as a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. Her sharp questioning of Trump officials during Senate hearings earned her national attention, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
